Outcome
The challenge
Improve the efficiency and workflow of conducting accessibility assessments.
Role and Methodology
Experience map & Intervention scope
I defined the experience map from the discovered insights and defined the intervention scope.
Users Insights
I conducted 7 semi structured interviews to gather patterns and insights on the current workflow.
UI & Prototype
I defined the foundamental of the design sytem built with variables and designed the template allowing scalabality and consistency cross audits.
What is an accessibility audit?
An accessibility audit scans for violations in a product and proposes a remediation plan. Every month designers conduct more than 7+ audit accessibility assessment.
Is required detail attenction, precision and continuos feedback with other designers
The discovery
The solution
By intervening in the data entry phase on Figma, the workflow has been improved by 40%.
Core of template
By creating specific variables for each element, a parametric template has been developed that changes with the input of the variable, corresponding to the design tokens of the #WCAG, reducing the entry of the ID as the only manual action. To enhance awareness of the success criteria, the levels of guidelines and principles have been included.
Next steps
Figma to Excel Plug-in: Introduce a tool that improves communication between Figma and Excel, facilitating link matching.
Conclusion
Working in accessibility was a great challenge, I learnt how to conduct and manage an audit. Although accessibility is an evolving subject, it is important to emphasise the importance of designing usable products and services without creating barriers.
Thanks to people who teach everything i know about accessibility and inspired me in this journey: Francesco Ferretti, Valerio Ceccarelli, Alessandro Quarta and Lucilla Cesaroni.
